RICHARD JOHN ACKERMANN passed away 9 January 2014 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center. He was born 29 May 1929 in Chicago Illinois, one of three children of the late Rudolph P. Ackermann and Rose S. Ackermann. Richard is survived by his wife of 59 years Ann Nash Ackermann, son Mark Gilbert Ackermann, daughter Janet Kay Dixon and son in law George Richard Dixon Jr. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend. Richard graduated from Lane Technical in 1948 and went on to play baseball in the semi-professional leagues in 6 different cities including Green Bay WI, New Castle PA, Charlotte NC, Fayetteville NC, Hagerstown MD and Huron SD. In 1951 he was drafted into the army and served in the Korean War earning the Combat Infantry Badge. Upon returning home he married the love of his life Ann Nash Maynard in 1954 having met her while playing baseball in Charlotte. He then attended the College of Northern Illinois graduating with a Business Administration degree in just 3.5 years. His first job was with R.S. Dickson selling securities to institutions. He was then employed at Continental Bank in 1960 eventually consolidating three trading centers into one department. He then moved to lead the institutional municipal bond department as Managing Director at Merrill Lynch. He retired in 1985 built a house in Emerald Isle then built another here in Wilmington where his lovely wife still resides. He was an extremely gifted athlete and in his retirement years was an avid golfer and tennis player. Our family is very grateful for the wonderful care at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center and in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made there.
