Major James McKeown, U.S. Air Force Retired

Maj. James McKeown, 88, of Wilmington, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter.

James was born November 7, 1924 in Quincy, IL, son of the late Florence and Charles McKeown. His wife, Lillian Louise McKeown, preceded him in death.

Maj. McKeown served with the Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force as a Pilot flying missions in World War II, The Philippines, and The Korean War. As an Air Force Pilot he was assigned to the 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing and finished his career assigned to HQ COMD USAF, Andrews AFB, Maryland.

Maj. James McKeown is survived by his sons and their families, Charles McKeown, Robert McKeown, his wife Sharon McKeown, Kenneth McKeown, his wife Kathy McKeown, and six grandchildren.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at St. Mark Catholic Church with Father Steve Carlson officiating. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
